The Toyota bZ4X has received homologation papers from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) for the second time, once again pointing toward an official Philippine release. The fully electric SUV got its first batch of papers back in 2023, but that was to no avail.
So, how are we sure this isn’t just another round of gray market units heading to private dealers? Well, since 2023, Toyota Motor Philippines has been locked in on building its electrified stable, and the arrival of the Ativ has signaled the brand’s continuous commitment to hybrid vehicles. With a complete set of hybrids, Toyota may now be ready to take the leap into fully electric offerings.

According to the homologation papers, the approved bZ4X looks to be a dual-motor variant with 456km of range. For those who haven’t seen gray market units cruising around the city, this electric SUV is slightly larger than the RAV4, measuring at 4,690mm long, 1,650mm tall, and 1,860mm wide. Its 2,850mm wheelbase makes room for five passengers, with around 200mm of ground clearance.

Interestingly, the LTO had also published papers for the bZ3 sedan just last month. With the onslaught of new Chinese brands and their all-electric offerings, Toyota could go on the offensive in the sedan and compact SUV segments right out the gate.
At the 2024 Philippine International Motor Show, Toyota showcased its Beyond Zero advocacy and put the bZ4X at center stage, and it’s been about a full calendar year since then. Is it time for Toyota to throw its hat into the electric vehicle market? Let us know in the comments.
