It’s shaping up to be quite the year for Toyota Motor Philippines. Not only did it just announce that the all-new bZ4x is on its way to the market, but it has also confirmed that the hatchback it was recently teasing is, in fact, the GR Corolla.

Yes, folks. The GR Yaris’ hot hatch sibling is on its way to the Philippines. This is not a drill. It was Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippines that made the announcement, to be precise. Toyota has something planned for it on December 17, so keep your eyes peeled.

While we don’t have details on pricing just yet, we know for a fact that this high-performance Corolla hatch packs a similar 1.6-liter three-cylinder turbopetrol found in the GR Yaris, only this one is slightly more powerful at 300hp and 400Nm of torque.

The GR Corolla shares the same GR-Four all-wheel-drive system as the GR Yaris. Both high-revving hatchbacks were initially built with stick shifts, and only recently did they get automatic gearboxes.

If you look back at the past year’s events, though, all signs were already leading towards this local launch. The GR Corolla first landed in ASEAN in December 2024, and then we heard rumors of its potential arrival back in August 2025. Our initial scoop said the hot hatch could launch in 2026, but who would’ve thought we’d be seeing it here sooner? We’re not complaining, of course. In any case, we’ll keep you all posted once we have word on pricing or other important details. Or if, you know, Toyota will also be launching the Morizo Edition here...one can dream.
