At the moment, there’s only one powertrain choice for the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. The sole choice is a turbocharged 2.4-liter that effectively replaced the tried and tested (but quite thirsty) 4.0-liter V6. It’s good for 276hp and 430Nm, so it also has more grunt than the old V6.
That said, there are more engines available in other markets. Of course, there’s the familiar 2.8-liter diesel with 201hp and 500Nm, along with a mild hybrid version of the same engine. Then there’s the i-Force Max, a 2.4-liter turbo-hybrid that’s also used in the North American Tacoma.

A quick check of the Land Transportation Office’s database has revealed that a new powertrain option might be on the way here. No, it’s not the diesel, as listed there was the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Hybrid. Sorry diesel fans, but it does reflect the brand’s continuous campaign for electrification.

Now for the important bit, the specs. The LTO document doesn’t show much other than its engine capacity and battery type, plus dimensions. There is, however, more information about it in the global spec sheet. The electrified 2.4-liter turbo makes 326hp and 630Nm, heaps more than the standard model.
Aside from the hybrid powertrain, there were two things in the file that caught our attention. The first is that it has seven seats which is noteworthy as even the North American hybrid Prado only seats five. Another would be the 18-inch wheels which as smaller than the ones currently fitted to the current version sold here. Does this mean we’ll get hybrid Prado with the classic look? We’re keeping our fingers crossed.
