The Toyota Raize is a lot of things to a lot of people. For some, it’s a great daily car that’s great on fuel and light to drive. For others, they see its aftermarket potential.

Toyota, along with its affiliate Daihatsu, are well aware of this. That’s why during the 2024 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show, the latter premiered a new concept for the subcompact crossover.

With overloading more popular than ever, that’s the theme that the Daihatsu Rocky, the Raize’s twin, took for the Crossfield concept.

For starters, it gets a toughened exterior with a two-tone scheme. The main body is painted in Sand Beige and gets matte black bumpers, fender extensions, and rocker panels. The lower half of the doors also get a matte black wrap, while the roof is finished in gloss black.

Just as noticeable is its new grille. As a nod to the past, the word Daihatsu is spelled out with a classic typeface. It comes with unique alloy wheels that are shod in chunky all-terrain tires.

Further adding to the overlander look is the roof basket. Attached to it is an LED light bar and a pop-out awning that should make it a hit at the campsite. Inside, however, it’s mostly carried over from the standard Daihatsu Rocky/Toyota Raize.

It may say concept on it, but it’s practically ready to hit the road. After all, it’s based on a production model already. That said, we wouldn’t advise going too far off-road with it. There are no mechanical changes, so it’s still front-wheel drive. Also, the Rocky on display uses the 1.2-liter engine that makes 85hp and 105Nm of torque.

Okay, it won’t go too far in a trail, but it should be enough to give it extra capability when the going gets a little tougher. If anything, it should inspire a few overlanding builds for this pint-sized SUV.
