Remember that shadowy image of the new Toyota SUV from last week? The Japanese carmaker has revealed more info on it—by way of another teaser, of course—and we can now confirm that it’s a three-row SUV.
The rearmost bench is just visible in the dimly lit photo of the interior. The vehicle will have captain chairs for the second row, a sunroof spanning almost the entire length of the roof, a digital instrument panel, and a massive center touchscreen that, hopefully, is supplemented by physical controls via the ledge of buttons below it.

As we reported earlier, this product is specifically for the North American market, and automotive outlets in the region are speculating that it will use the ‘bZ’ designation and could be called the Toyota bZ5X, matching it to patent images of the bZ Large SUV concept first revealed in 2021. The three-row configuration makes it considerably larger than the bZ4X and the bZ3X.

The use of ‘bZ’ would mean the model will be fully-electric, putting it in the same category as the Hyundai Ioniq 9 and the Kia EV9. That said, it could also take the Highlander name, since this is already familiar to North American consumers.

We’re still waiting on more images and specs, but considering the region it’s for, an electric SUV of this size will surely get a big battery for long freeway runs, and perhaps the choice between single- and dual-motor configurations like its Korean competitors. The model will be launched this month, so we won’t have to wait long to find out.
