Car nuts, rejoice: The Japan Mobility Show is now an annual event

But there’s a catch…

Japan Mobility Show (JMS) organizers are shaking things up—thankfully, in a good way.

The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) has announced that the holy grail of Asian car shows will now be annual instead of bi-annual. The change is effective starting this year, with the 2024 JMS slated for October 15 to 18 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture.

There’s a catch, though. While most of us have grown accustomed to seeing JMS as a consumer-centric showcase, this will no longer always be the case. Instead, JAMA is shifting to a “double profile” event that will see JMS alternate between a business-centric “process year” and a “show year.”

Last year, the event featured the usual showcase of the best and latest carmakers have to offer. It's been confirmed that JMS 2024 will be a process year, so we should probably expect fewer concepts and major releases and more displays and exhibits catering to businesses.

So far, JAMA has confirmed that at least 200 companies will participate in the event, which will focus on themes like carbon neutrality, manufacturing, supply chains, and construction.

Obviously, most car nuts will want to save up for a trip to Tokyo during a JMS “show year.” Still, we’re confident that even process years such as this one will offer many interesting new insights and ideas. Would you be interested in attending?
