Another recall has hit the global auto market. The stakes are high with this one, as thousands of children’s safety may potentially be at stake.
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission recently announced a massive recall for JAKKS Pacific’s 24V Mario Kart Racer Cars over a potential crash hazard.
According to the recall announcement on the organization’s website, around 17,500 Mario Kart Racer Car units are affected. The safety hazard is that debris may be lodged around the accelerator pedal, making the component “stick” even if the user removes their foot.

So far, a total of 65 incidents of debris causing the vehicle’s accelerator pedal to become stuck have been reported. Of that figure, 15 have resulted in crashes, with one incident resulting in a minor injury (a chaffed hand).
Owners need not visit the dealership, though. While the organization advises consumers to “immediately stop using” the vehicle, it says JAKKS Pacific will send a free repair kit to owners of affected units.
The JAKKS Pacific 24V Mario Kart Racer Car retails for around $400 (just under P24,000) in the US market. Tell us, would you trust your child to drive one of these things after this recall?
