A major overhaul could be coming to the Toyota Corolla Altis lineup this year. The latest generation of the compact sedan has not seen an update since the hybrid version was launched in January 2025, but the whole roster may be shifting in 2026.

On its database of recognized electric vehicles, the Department of Energy has listed what looks to be two new variants of the model—specifically, the Corolla Altis 1.8 E HEV and the Corolla Altis 1.8 G HEV. They could be brought in as more affordable options to the currently available Corolla GR-S HEV, which stickers for P1.746 million.

To thicken the plot even further: Over in Thailand, a new non-hybrid variant has just been introduced, along with another base-level electrified variant. There, the Corolla Altis lineup now consists of a single non-hybrid model and three hybrid options—and we wouldn’t be surprised if the Philippines followed suit.

We’ve seen Toyota curate purely hybrid lineups in the Corolla Cross and the Camry, but something tells us that a solely gasoline-fed Corolla Altis will likely stick around.

As it is positioned between the cost-effective Ativ and the upmarket Camry, Toyota may want to provide more general options for car buyers. Three hybrid options at varying price points, along with an entry-level non-hybrid option, may be the sweet spot against what other Toyota sedans offer. Mind you, the Ativ has only one hybrid variant.

With the growing popularity of electrified vehicles, it will be interesting to see what Toyota has in store for one of its most historic nameplates. While this all remains speculative, we’ll be keeping an eye out for what the brand officially says.
