In case you missed it—we’ll guess you didn’t—Toyota is facing yet another huge problem on a global scale as reoprts of certification irregularities affecting three engines have just come out.

There were affected models that are sold here in our market, namely: the Innova, Fortuner, Hilux, Hiace, and Land Cruiser 300. We’ve since reached out to Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP), and we finally have an answer.

TMP remains confident that the issue doesn’t affect any of the models sold here in the Philippines. It also pointed out that the certification irregularities are based on national requirements in certain countries but do not affect actual vehicle performance.

More important, TMP also assured customers that the irregularities do not negatively affect emissions or safety of their vehicles.

You can read TMP’s full statement below:

“Toyota Industries Corporation, a company affiliated with Toyota Motor Corporation, announced on Jan 29th 2024, that irregularities in horsepower output certification tests applicable to certain countries were found on three Toyota engine models. However, this issue does not affect any vehicle in the Philippines.

“As a reference, this matter relates to irregularities in the certification process based on national requirements in certain countries, but do not have any impact on horsepower, torque or other powertrain-related values. Additionally, these irregularities do not compromise the emissions or safety of their vehicles.

“We would like to reassure our customers by stating that we believe their vehicles are unaffected by these irregularities. We apologize for any confusion or concern this issue may have caused.”

There you have it, then. If we get more important updates regarding this, we’ll keep you posted.
