The Ford F-150 is going electric. Alright, perhaps not the entire lineup—at least not yet. The way the auto industry is going these days, though, could indicate that the release of the F-150 Lightning might be the writing on the wall.
Chances are some internal combustion faithfuls are going to have a few choice words if that ever happens. Ford can rest easy, though, that it has at least one person of major influence backing up the vehicle: The president of the United States, Joe Biden.
The 78-year-old head of state recently paid a visit to Ford’s Rouge Electric Vehicle Center yesterday to tour the facility. In a tweet, Biden recalled his father who managed car dealerships back in the day. Look:
Biden also had the opportunity to sample the F-150 Lightning. The US president took the pickup for a spin around the facility’s test area, getting a feel for the truck’s dual motors capable of as much as 563hp and 1,050Nm. Watch:
First impressions? “This sucker’s quick,” Biden said following his quick stint behind the F-150 Lightning’s wheel. When prodded by reporters as to whether he would consider buying one, Biden replied in the affirmative, saying the EV felt great to drive and praising how quick it was to 60mph from the line.
So, the F-150 Lightning gets the US president’s stamp of approval then. Think the rest of the market will feel the same way about the direction Ford is taking with America’s favorite pickup truck? Let us know in the comments.
