Marikina is one of the most bike-friendly cities in Metro Manila. Long before the pandemic cycling boom, Marikina already built a network of dedicated bike lanes, had a strong local cycling culture, and promoted alternative mobility.  The city even has a ‘Marikina Bikeways Office’ that regularly manages infrastructure and promotes safety by clearing bike lanes and installing free, accessible bicycle racks in key locations.

And if you ask any cyclist who lives in or frequents the Marikina area for bike-shop recommendations, the first name that comes to mind is John Wilkie Bike Shop. This iconic neighborhood bike shop, established in April 1983, has been a fixture in the local cycling community for over four decades.

John Wilkie Bike Shop is conveniently located along JP Rizal. You can find it near key landmarks like the Marikina Church, the Marikina Footwear Museum, and Mama Chit’s, a well-known retro diner cafe. With its friendly neighborhood vibe, it’s one of the best places for all types of cyclists to find bike parts, upgrades, and accessories in Marikina.

The shop caters to road and mountain bikers, with a good inventory of some hard-to-find bike parts for cycling enthusiasts. They carry frames from premium brands like Shimano, Factor, BMC, Cannondale, and Giant, alongside extensive components and bike parts. They also carry cycling apparel like jerseys, shoes, and helmets, among others.

Before some newer bike shops opened in Quezon City near our residence, we used to frequent this Marikina institution. This was where I bought my old MOB bike more than a decade ago, when it was difficult to find bikes with smaller frames. It’s also where my husband scored a steel frame and various parts for his project gravel bike a few years back, which he still uses today. We still pass by the bike shop occasionally to browse for random bike stuff and accessories during rides in the east.

According to local bikers, the bike shop is known for its competitive pricing, offering good value with an extensive range of items and parts compared to some other shops. In fact, they often supply other shops in the area. Like any bike shop, it offers basic services such as tune-ups, bike spa services, alignment, and bike washes.

Aside from bike parts and products, it’s the service that keeps cyclists coming back. Marikina bikers we’ve talked to say that the shop employs some of the best mechanics in the metro, capable of fixing various bike issues.

Another great thing about John Wilkie is its location near some classic food stops and a growing number of bike-friendly cafes in Marikina, making it easy for cyclists to combine bike errands with coffee runs.

One of our personal favorites is the retro-inspired cafe Mama Chit’s Coffee Shop, a small, neighborhood diner that offers affordable burgers and fruit shakes in a unique space packed with vintage memorabilia. Since it’s right beside John Wilkie Bike Shop, it’s a great spot to hang out and grab a bite while waiting for their bikes to get serviced or washed.

While they cater more to the family crowd rather than bikers, you can also find Sundays and Rustic Mornings, which opened a standalone bakery very nearby. The stalls selling kakanin like kutsinta, ube halaya, and suman across the street from the bike shop are worth checking out for take-out right as well.

And in case you’re looking for an extra reason to explore Marikina, the Michelin-selected Lola Helen Panciteria, which offers affordable pancit, lumpia, and rice meals, is less than a kilometer away from the bike shop coming from the bridge.

Whether you’re in the market to buy a new bike this 2026, planning to get upgrades done on your existing rides, or wanting to explore another neighborhood during weekend rides, John Wilkie Bike Shop is a good option for Marikina residents and those who live in nearby cities like Pasig and Quezon City.

John Wilkie Bike Shop is located at 234 JP Rizal St., San Roque, Marikina City, Philippines.
