We love the Miata. Who doesn’t? The Mazda MX-5 is one of the most endearing automobiles ever built, and across its generations, it has amassed a cult following across the world.
But to see the love for the Miata, you don’t need to look far—just here in the Philippines, there’s still an ongoing craze for Mazda’s famed roadster.

During the recent launch of the all-new Mazda CX-5, we got to talking with Mazda Philippines president and CEO Steven Tan. He shared with us that apparently, the Miata is now Mazda Philippines’ best-selling model. Globally speaking, the Philippines has become the second-largest market for the MX-5 in the world, next only to Japan.

We don’t have the exact figures to show you, and frankly, we couldn’t care less. In a way, this comes as a surprise, and it also doesn’t. We understand that in this day and age, practicality is king. But at the same time, we’re also familiar with the burning passion that Filipino enthusiasts have for the Mazda’s iconic sports car.

We’ve gotten special anniversary-edition models just for the Miata Club Philippines, and it speaks volumes that the brand recognizes just how important the MX-5 is to this community. At each Mazda Fan Festa gathering, we also see the sea of convertibles that show up every single time, be it on track or just at Mazda’s HQ.
The future may remain vague for this legend, as we’re still not quite sure what the next-generation model will be like. But until then, there’s one thing that’s certain, especially for Mazda fans here on our side of the globe: The Miata is always the answer.
