It’s been nearly a year since Nissan offered a first look at the Tekton, and now it’s finally been unveiled in India. Without all the shadows in the way, it’s much easier to see the big-body SUV styling cues this compact crossover pulls off to echo the Patrol.
The Nissan Tekton’s front fascia is properly chunky. Putting together the flat nose, 90-degree DRLs, and (likely cosmetic) skid plate makes for a commanding presence. There’s also the ‘Tekton’ name spelled out on the hood, which we saw prominently featured in the teaser last year.

The spec-sheet gives us the Tekton’s measurements: 4,349mm long, 1,815mm wide, and 1,674mm tall with the roof rail equipped. This is firmly within subcompact crossover territory, rubbing shoulders with models like the Hyundai Creta, which is another Indian market favorite.

Interestingly, Nissan opts out of electrification for the Tekton and offers two petrol engines. The smaller mill is a 1.0-liter turbocharged engine that churns out 99hp and 166Nm of torque, mated to a six-speed manual. For drivers in need of more performance, a bigger 1.3-liter turbocharged engine is also on offer, which makes 161hp and 280Nm of torque paired with either a wet dual-clutch transmission or the same manual gearbox from the smaller engine.

Stepping inside, there’s a lot going on with the interior. Pictured here is a three-tone black/beige/burgundy leather upholstery complemented with metallic rose gold accents. Amenities include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front row seats with power adjustment, and Nissan’s ADAS suite.
The 10.1-inch Google-powered infotainment screen is angled towards the driver and is complemented by a row of dedicated physical controls for air-conditioning. Nissan also claims a cavernous 700 liters of cargo space in the Tekton’s trunk from floor to roof; the parcel shelf cuts that to 518 liters. With the rear seats folded down, storage expands to 1,789 liters.


Off the bat, the Japanese brand makes it clear that the Nissan Tekton is a model made in India, for India, and will eventually get shipped to other global markets. As with China, Nissan views the Indian market as a key export hub in its global operations. Nissan has confirmed that the Tekton is on the way to the Middle East, Africa, and parts of Europe; as it stands, it’s unlikely the ASEAN market is getting this crossover.
