Nissan may have been streamlining its operations or downsizing, even, in order to manage its financial struggles, but it’s not stopped the carmaker from, well, making cars. It recently rolled out the all-new Sentra, confirmed the manual Z Nismo is in production, and released a new variant for an aging model in the Navara.
Now, Nissan has confirmed an entirely new model: the Tekton. The Japanese automaker has given us our first look, and we’re quite stoked—this looks like a baby Patrol. ‘Baby’ because this will be a subcompact crossover.

Not a lot of details have been shared, but the initial teaser images clearly show the beefy-looking sculpted hood with a Patrol-like light signature and a boxy front fascia. The Tekton badge is also spelled out up front. At the rear, there’s more of the Patrol-esque look with the matching taillights and the lightbar on the tailgate. Bulky plastic claddings can also be seen underneath.

True enough, Nissan itself says the design “draws inspiration from the legendary Nissan Patrol.” But before we get too excited, note that this will be built in India and sold only in that market...for now. It’ll be manufactured at the Chennai plant in partnership with Renault. Nissan, however, mentioned that there will be future export to “select global markets.” Keep those fingers crossed.
“The Nissan Tekton is going to be at the center of Nissan Motor India’s resurgence story and offers a glimpse into the future of our product portfolio in the country,” said Nissan Motor India managing director Saurabh Vatsa. “With its commanding stance, bold looks and premium interiors, we are confident that it will be a segment disruptor, appealing to customers seeking a robust yet refined C-SUV. This model will spearhead Nissan’s growth story in India.”
Still crossing your fingers? You won’t have to for long. Nissan says the Tekton will debut next year, during which it’ll confirm the specific export markets for this new SUV.
