Sound the alarms and light the beacons... again: It’s another special-edition Porsche 911. Heck, is there even enough fuel left to light the beacons after all the previous limited-run Porsches? Well, this one’s a hybrid so at least we’ll save a bit there.

Because this one is the Porsche 911 Spirit 70, and it’s the third 911 that Porsche has created as part of its ‘Heritage Design strategy’ after the Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition from 2020 (celebrating the ’50s and early ’60s) and the second ducktailed 911 Sport Classic from 2022 (celebrating the ’60s and early ’70s). Side note: this car is a sign that Porsche will be expanding its customization options even further, with the capacity of the Exclusive Manufaktur department set to grow ‘significantly’.

Anyway, back to the car. Limited to just 1,500 examples and only available as a convertible, the Spirit 70 celebrates the—you guessed it—1970s and early ’80s, but it’s based on a modern 992.2 Carrera GTS Cabriolet. Yep, that’s the one with Yorkshire’s favorite T-Hybrid system for 534hp and 609Nm of torque.

The mechanicals are actually unchanged for the Spirit 70, so it’s PDK-only with the fancy electric turbocharger and 3.6-liter flat-six. You do get the option of a new ‘Olive Neo’ exterior paint color though, with that special shade of green complemented by ‘Bronzite’ accents. That latter color adorns the Fuchs-style wheels and parts of the front and rear bumpers. The soft-top roof is black, as is the rather bold racing stripe graphic on the hood and the roundel on the doors.

You also get a replica of the Porsche crest from 1963 up front, while the rest of the badging elsewhere is picked out in gold. Perhaps the highlight of the whole special edition is the interior, though. The iconic Porsche Pasha pattern is back, with the moving checkered flag-style fabric covering the seats, the door panels, part of the dash and even inside the glovebox and front boot.

Elsewhere there’s lots of black leather and Olive Neo stitching, and the instrument cluster has been modified with retro colors on the dials.

This is a special edition Porsche though, so of course it doesn’t come cheap. While a standard 911 Carrera GTS Cab starts at £147,900 (P11 million) here in the UK, the limited-run Spirit 70 will set you back at least £187,700 (P14 million). Yikes.

Oh, and that’s before you’ve ticked the box for the matching 911 Spirit 70 watch. That can only be bought by those purchasing the car and comes with a unique edition number engraved on the back, but it’ll cost an extra £12,000 (P900,000). And no, that isn’t a typo.
