As you may have heard by now, Toyota and Daihatsu have suspended production of models that use the DNGA (Daihatsu New Global Architecture) platform. It includes models such as the Wigo, Raize, Avanza, Veloz, and Yaris Cross.

This is due to ‘safety irregularities’ that were discovered and made public last December 20, 2023. Per the report, 174 irregularities were found in 25 testing categories. The investigation was conducted in-house and by third-party groups.

The investigation is still ongoing at the moment. However, one assembly line has been cleared to resume operations. That plant is the one in Indonesia. Located in Karawang, West Java, the facility is responsible for rolling out DNGA-based models for most of Southeast Asia.

It’s a bit of good news given that Daihatsu has had its fair share of safety-related investigations this year. The first involved door linings, while the second was regarding side impact testing procedures. That said, the investigation still has a long way to go. Only the Indonesian assembly line has been cleared, but plants in Japan, Latin America, and other neighboring plants in ASEAN have yet to resume operations.
