Every single time a new hybrid vehicle arrives in our market, the biggest question is always “How fuel-efficient is it?” Well, apart from the usual price-related inquiries, of course.
On our end, we’ve received such questions multiple times regarding a certain up-and-coming model from Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP): the all-new Yaris Cross. It’s already been here for a while now, but unfortunately, we haven’t been able to take it out for a spin yet as of this writing—we promise to put out full reviews once we get our hands on this thing. But in any case, TMP’s come to our rescue, as it’s now published fuel-economy figures for the Yaris Cross Hybrid.

According to TMP’s recent post, the hybrid subcompact crossover can supposedly do up to 33.3km/L in the city. On the highway, it goes down a bit to a still-impressive 25.64km/L. Combined, you’re looking at 27.78km/L. These numbers were achieved after tests under controlled environments following internationally accepted fuel consumption test protocol under UN Regulations No. 101.
That being said, these figures are still actually pretty darn good. Seeing as this vehicle has a 36-liter fuel tank, then in theory, you can go for up to 1,198.8km in just one full tank. Damn.
For more context, the Yaris Cross HEV is powered by a 1.5-liter four-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine paired with a 79hp electric motor. Total system output for this setup is 90hp and 121Nm of torque.
