The major fuel price jumps that started in March as an effect of the war in the Middle East are spilling over onto April. The cost of diesel continues to climb rapidly, while gasoline gets more modest price hikes this week.

For March 31 to April 6, 2026, gasoline prices will increase by up to P2.90 per liter. Meanwhile, diesel prices will increase by up to P12.19 per liter. Kerosene will also have a price hike of P2.40 per liter. The Department of Energy shared these values the evening before these price hikes would take effect—take note that actual price hikes may differ per vendor and station.

From the increases this week, we see that diesel prices show no signs of slowing down. Gasoline prices, however, do seem to have lost some momentum. In fact, the DOE’s table even shows potential rollbacks of up to P2.35/L for some stations. Then again, this is all perspective, as a price hike of two or three pesos would have been seen as a significant jump earlier this year.

The Hormuz Strait, an artery in the world’s flow of fuel, continues to be closed amid the ongoing conflict in the region. Although Iran has expressed some willingness to reopen the strait, there appears to be no clear timeline for when this might happen. In the meantime, we can only do what we can to mitigate the effects of the continuously rising fuel prices.
