It’s only been a few weeks since our last spec-sheet comparo, but we’re already back with another one. And this time, we have four midsize SUVs to pit against each other—including the all-new Isuzu MU-X.
We’ve picked the top-of-the-line Isuzu MU-X 3.0L 4X4 LS-E AT for this brawl. As we’ve said, this is a four-way, so we have the Nissan Terra 2.5 VL 4x4 AT, the Toyota Fortuner 2.8 LTD 4x4 AT, and the Mitsubishi Montero Sport GT 4WD AT stacked against it.
The MU-X may have gotten an all-new engine, but its new 187hp, 450Nm 3.0-liter turbodiesel is only good for second place here. These figures are identical to what the Terra’s powertrain is capable of, only that one is a smaller 2.5-liter unit. Taking the win in this regard is still the Fortuner with its 201hp, 500Nm 2.8-liter turbodiesel. The Montero Sport, meanwhile, falls behind with its 178hp, 430Nm 2.4-liter engine.
If you’ve read about the tech that the all-new MU-X now comes with, then you know that it now has all the toys to go head-to-head with the best in its segment. That’s why here, this comparo remains fairly equal, as all four come loaded with driver-assist and active safety features.
The Fortuner used to lack blind-spot monitoring, autonomous emergency braking, and rear cross-traffic alert, but Toyota Motor Philippines has since added all these features with the recent update. The Terra, however, still lacks adaptive cruise control. The MU-X, meanwhile, basically has all the added tech that its competitors have on offer, save for the 360-degree camera and the paddle shifters.
As for the prices, the Isuzu MU-X stickers for P2,450,000. It’s now more expensive than the Fortuner, even after the recent price bump that got its tag up to P2,440,000. The Terra has a P2,339,000 SRP, while the Montero Sport retails for P2,298,000, making these two the more affordable vehicles here.
