Toyota Motor Philippines’ annual Road Trek event is in full swing, and the first vehicle we got to experience was the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ TX. As the base variant in the wider LC FJ range, this configuration is priced at P2.235 million, with an extra P15,000 for the Platinum White Pearl Mica color.

While it doesn’t have advanced driving aids and accessories, it comes with the standard 2TR-FE 2.7-liter gasoline engine and 4x4 drivetrain—meaning it has the same 164hp and 245Nm of torque as the top-of-the-line VX variant. The TX also uses an identical suspension system and is also loaded with an auto limited-slip diff and a rear differential lock.

  • Toyota Land Cruiser FJ VX – P2,575,000
  • Toyota Land Cruiser FJ TX Platinum White Pearl Mica – P2,250,000

Because the exterior is quite bare, it actually offers a clean silhouette for an overlanding build. While it does have smaller 17-inch steelies—as opposed to the VX’s 18-inch alloys—it once again poses with a more neutral look.

Stare at it a little while longer and the creative juices will certainly start flowing. Admittedly, Land Cruiser FJ VX already looks like a finished build, and so, if you can’t wait to hit the trails, then that may be the variant for you. But those who prefer to start completely from scratch could have a lot of fun with the TX trim.

The base-level cabin still packs some comprehensive features. The synthetic leather around the seats and the urethane-wrapped steering wheel draw no complaints, and the standard six-speaker audio system is on board.

In terms of driving, as mentioned, no Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 functions are available, but the TX still has hill-start and downhill-assist controls, and an active traction control system.

We still have two more days of driving around Cebu, and we’ll be posting more updates as we go. Let us know if you have any questions about the new Land Cruiser FJ and the new Hilux in the comments section.
