The Toyota RAV4 is in desperate need of an update. After the fifth generation was launched in 2022, Toyota Motor Philippines further expanded its other hybrid offerings, renewing the Corolla Cross and the Camry, and eventually bringing in the all-new Ativ sedan.
Compared to the rest of the local stable, the hybrid RAV4 looks outdated, which is a shame for one of the brand’s most storied nameplates. However, a real refresh might be on the way as the Department of Energy has added the sixth-generation RAV4 to its list of recognized electric vehicles.

This latest RAV4 launched globally in May 2025 with a completely new look and a new plug-in hybrid variant. The DOE, however, only added the series-hybrid ADV and LTD variants to its list.

Both variants feature all-wheel-drive systems and an updated version of the 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid powertrain. Paired with dual motors and a 1.09kWh battery, the hybrid system makes around 236hp, which is a steep step up from the 176hp on the existing RAV4.

The LTD trim could be positioned as a base-level RAV4, while the ADV could pack the RAV4’s adventure kit, loaded with more rugged styling and accessories.
There’s still no official word from Toyota about the new RAV4 entering the Philippines, but with other reports of the hybrid Land Cruiser 300 and Prado possibly debuting, it doesn’t sound too far-fetched.
