Honda Cars Philippines will be importing the Jazz, Accord and Civic from Japan while Honda Motor's Thailand plant is under renovation after it was hit by a devastating flood late last year.

"Starting February 2012, we will be importing the Jazz, Accord and the all-new Civic from Japan to keep up with the demands of our customers," said Honda Cars Philippines president and general manager Tatsuya Natsume at the launch of the refreshed City subcompact sedan.

This is only a temporary measure, though, while the Thailand plant is being repaired. Once it becomes operational again, Honda Cars Philippines will again get most of its vehicles from Thailand.

"There's still no word when the Thailand plant will be back online," cautioned Allan Cruz of Honda Cars Philippines’ marketing and sales division. "The soonest would probably be in around six months."

Even the production of the Honda City, which is assembled at Honda's Santa Rosa plant in Laguna, suffered during the flood as parts of the vehicle were sourced from Thailand. Cruz said that as a stop-gap measure, parts necessary to build the City were shipped from Honda plants in other parts of Southeast Asia.
