One of the latest electrified SUVs to land on our shores is the refreshed Ford Territory. In case you missed it, the Blue Oval’s latest compact SUV is now only offered as a hybrid in the local market. For this comparo, we’ll be pitting the base Territory Hybrid Trend variant against the most affordable hybrid SUV offerings from MG and BYD, the ZS Hybrid+ and the Sealion 5 DM-i.
The Territory Hybrid measures 4,685mm long, 1,935mm wide, and 1,706mm tall. This makes it 255mm longer, 117mm wider, and 71mm taller than the ZS Hybrid+. When compared to the Sealion 5, the Territory is 53mm shorter, 75mm wider, and 4mm lower. The Ford rides on a 2,726mm wheelbase, which is 116mm longer than the MG’s and 14mm longer than the BYD’s.

The Territory Hybrid also has 185mm of ground clearance. This is 45mm more than the ZS Hybrid+ and 29mm more than the Sealion 5. The Ford is equipped with 28.2-inch-diameter 235/55 R18 tires, which is 1.7 inches taller than the ZS Hybrid+’s 26.5-inch-diameter 215/50 R18 rollers and 0.4 inches smaller than the Sealion 5’s 28.6-inch-diameter 225/60 R18 rubber.

Here’s a bonus comparison: The Territory Hybrid is 225mm longer, 110mm wider, and 86mm taller than the Corolla Cross HEV. The Ford’s wheelbase is 86mm longer than Toyota’s compact crossover SUV. The Territory Hybrid’s ground clearance is 24mm greater than the Corolla Cross HEV’s.

Here’s a quick overview of the three main featured vehicles: The Territory Hybrid Trend is the base variant of Ford’s refreshed compact SUV. It’s powered by a 148hp 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and a 215hp electric motor. The ZS Hybrid+, on the other hand, is the top variant of MG’s all-new subcompact SUV. It is propeled by a 100hp 1.5-liter gasoline mill and a 134hp electric motor. Note that the lower variants of the all-new ZS are non-hybrid. Finally, we have the Sealion 5 DM-i, BYD’s subcompact-priced compact SUV. Unlike its rivals, only one variant is offered locally. It’s propelled by 194hp electric motor with a 105hp 1.5-liter gas unit that mainly functions as generator. All three electrified SUVs are front-wheel-drive.
As of this writing, the Ford Territory Hybrid Trend carries a price tag of P1.399 million, followed by the MG ZS Hybrid+ at P1.328 million (P1,248,888 introductory), and the BYD Sealion 5 DM-i at P1.248 million (P1,198,000 introductory). Interestingly, the lone PHEV is the cheapest of the bunch. For those curious, the base Corolla Cross 1.8 G HEV in our bonus comparison is the most expensive at P1.514 million.
