Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has confirmed the five new vehicles it will be launching in 2026. This list of upcoming new models includes the new 2026 Hilux. For those curious, the outgoing Hilux was the Japanese brand’s third best-selling model behind the Avanza and Vios in 2025. For this comparo, we will be pitting the upcoming 2026 Hilux against another popular mid-size pickup, the Ford Ranger. We’ve selected the high-trim lifestyle variants from each brand in their signature paint colors.
The new Hilux measures 5,320mm long, 1,885mm wide, and 1,815mm tall, making it 50mm shorter, 33mm narrower, and 69mm lower than the Ranger. The overall height of vehicles typically includes fixed protruding components like the shark fin or the base of the bee-sting antenna. The Toyota’s wheelbase measures 3,085mm, which is a whopping 185mm less between the axles than the Ford pickup. When it comes to tire sizes, the Hilux continues with 30.5-inch-diameter 265/60 R18 rubber, which is 0.6 inches smaller than the 31.6-inch-diameter 255/65 R18 rollers. The Toyota’s ground clearance is 225mm, 10mm less than the Ford pickup.

Note that we are using specs from Toyota Thailand, since TMP has not yet released any official information regarding its upcoming new Hilux.

Here’s a quick overview of the two featured vehicles: The new-generation-but-not-quite-all-new Hilux made its global debut this past November 2025 and will likely reach us in the second half of 2026. The Hilux variant you see here is the Thai-spec ‘Overland’ trim, although it’s too early to tell if TMP will adopt this nomenclature or stick with the established ‘Conquest.’
By now, you probably already know that the upcoming Hilux is not a clean-sheet redesign. It features a more rugged look but is built on the same tried-and-tested IMV architecture. Under its hood is the familiar 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV turbodiesel that puts out 201hp and 500Nm of torque and is paired to a six-speed automatic transmission.

The Ford Ranger, on the other hand, is a carryover model as of this writing—the current-gen model made its debut in late 2021 and landed on our shores in July the following year. The four-wheel-drive Wildtrak is motivated by a 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel mill that pumps out 207hp and 500Nm of torque. It is mated to a ten-speed auto tranny.
What do you think of the new Hilux? Would you still consider it over a Ranger or other mid-size pickups? Let us know in the comments.
