CAR MODELS IN THIS ARTICLE

Over the last few years, the local market for fully electric vehicles has gotten pretty comprehensive; however, it is still not quite complete. We’ve yet to see a true entry-level EV from a legacy carmaker, while segment stalwarts like the BYD Seagull and the VinFast VF3 haven’t received significant updates since their respective debuts.

Newer models are inevitable, and if any automotive distributors are reading, we have collated quite the wish list. These should boost overall competition across several price points and body types. And of course, add a little more color and excitement to the industry.

Before we dive in, let us know what BEVs or hybrid vehicles you’d like to see in the Philippines. We’re due for the BYD Atto 2 and the Toyota Hilux BEV soon—but who knows, your dream EV could be on its way.

While we wanted the Super-One, the more sensible N-One e: just makes, well, more sense. The N-One e: could be an industry shaker for Honda Cars Philippines, and we do not use that term lightly. Its size and power create a formidable competitor against the likes of the BYD Seagull, as the entry-level subcompact EV segment continues to emerge. Right away, the electric hatch would also come with the Honda heritage and reliability that many Filipinos are familiar with—but of course, that is only if it is priced appropriately.

2) 2026 BYD Seagull

The BYD Seagull has its work seriously cut out for it. New competition from GAC, Geely, and Chery has exposed the Seagull’s age, and the prices between all vehicles are increasingly close. However, over in China, BYD’s coveted hatchback has received a prompt update, with more range and updated technology. If it can keep its sub-P1 million price, then the 2026 Seagull should keep its nameplate relevant for a couple of more years.

3) Volkswagen ID. Polo

In terms of design, the Volkswagen ID. Polo has one of the cleanest looks in EVs today. It’s sleek and modern, while also not being overtly bold. That same motif is followed inside the cabin, which offers a blend of traditional tactile controls and modern technology. 208hp, 454km of range, and a hot GTI model aren’t bad either.

4) Third-generation Nissan Leaf

The Nissan Leaf was one of the pioneering full EVs in the Philippines, and a proper update is only right. The current third-generation model offers a new SUV-type look and an impressive driving range of 600km. Perhaps the debut of the Toyota bZ4X and the continued success of the Tesla Model Y could prompt Nissan Philippines to consider bringing in the latest Leaf.

5) BMW iX3

The Neue Klasse BMW iX3 could be the EV that kills range anxiety in the Philippines, with 800km ready on a full charge, and battery technology that gives it 372km in just 10 minutes. Until solid-state batteries become the norm, BMW might have the most interesting EV tech in the business.

6) Toyota bZ3

A Toyota from China? Yes, but hear us out. The bZ3 sedan from the Toyota-FAW partnership offers an interesting position if brought to the Philippines. Hypothetically, it could be sold as an entry level electric sedan, undercutting the likes of the Tesla Model 3 and the BYD Seal. At the moment it is a relatively niche segment, but Toyota could push the needle here.

7) Hyundai Inster

We were deciding to include either the Inster or the Ioniq 3, but we circled back to one thing—accessibility. Hyundai’s current EVs are great, but prices start at a tall P2.84 million with the 2WD Ioniq 5. The Inster—also known as the Casper Electric—could hit multiple birds with one release, thanks to its potentially accessible price and performance.

8) Slate Truck

Speaking of accessibility, the Slate Auto brand and its Truck were essentially built around that. Well, accessibility and extensive customization, really. Starting at just $24,950 (around P1.53 million), the Slate Truck offers the essentials of a fully electric workhorse. A five-foot bed, 330km of driving range, a payload limit of 703kg, and a towing capacity of 907kg could be all a working trucker needs.
